On days working away from the office, it can be difficult to keep as motivated as your normally would otherwise. Distractions come from every angle and many technology professionals either struggle to stay motivated, or fail to gain a healthy balance between work and life. Pair that with the time taken to guess passwords, find train times, and organise conference calls, and already a large proportion of your time is taken.

Thanks to the application developers of the world for helping with all of that. There are hundreds of apps out there, available for download, to help with productivity and project management. However, very few are genuinely useful. Here is our roundup of the best apps that can help in making you more productive every day.

1. Genius Scan

If you are regularly travelling for work, you are likely to have to keep track of various receipts, business cards and other documents. Using your phone’s camera, Genius Scan allows you to reduce the clutter and scan short documents which can then be sent via email. The app uses page frame detection and perspective correction in order to enhance readability. The paid version of the app is compatible with Google Docs, Evernote and Dropbox making it even easier to store and transfer your documents.

Available for iOS and Android

2. RescueTime

Want to know how you spend your time on the internet? Each week, RescueTime will send you a report on your internet activity. The app also allows you to set personal productivity goals which they will track for you. If you would like the option to block certain websites in order to get something done, the premium plan ($9 a month) lets you do so. It’s an easy way to see where you spend most of your time allowing you to cut out websites and applications that you use too often and hinder productivity.

Available for Android and Desktop

3. Focus Booster

Focus Booster uses the Pomodoro Technique which alternates 25 minute long working blocks with short breaks in order to maintain productivity in the long-term. This technique enables you to remain focused while reducing mental exhaustion. The Pomodoro Technique official website recommends activities such as meditation, grabbing a coffee or going for a short walk during these short breaks. After four working blocks it is also recommended that you take a longer 20-30 minute break in order for your brain to assimilate new information and rest before continuing to work.

Available for iOS and Android

4. UberConference

UberConference allows you to host an unlimited number of conference calls with up to 10 callers at a time. The app also offers built-in call recording so that you can play calls back later. Guests to the call can call in or connect to the conference via the web or mobile apps. Sharing your screen is also as easy as clicking the “Share” button on the UberConference dashboard. UberConference also gives you the ability to mute and text individual call members.

5. Dashlane

Dashlane is a password manager for both mobile and desktop that keeps track of all your logins and automatically enters your information as you surf. The app automatically generates new, stronger passwords for you and can lock itself down if you ever happen to lose your device.
